ENGLAND CELEBRATE EUROPEAN DOUBLE
The strength of English squash in Europe was emphatically underlined in the Netherlands when England decisively retained both the men's and women's titles in the European Team Squash Championships in Eindhoven.

England's men claimed their ninth successive title and 26th since the inaugural championships in 1973 when they crushed 2nd seeds France 4-0. In a second successive final triumph over France, Nottingham-based Yorkshireman Simon Parke, the England No1, dropped one game in beating French No1 Renan Lavigne 9-6 9-3 8-10 10-8, whilst team-mates Mark Chaloner, Nick Taylor and British National champion Lee Beachill secured their victories in straight games.

The women's team extended their remarkable unbeaten reign in the competition since 1978 when they whitewashed Denmark 3-0 in their first ever European final appearance. Sussex's world No4 Linda Charman-Smith led the assault, beating Danish champion Ellen Petersen 9-0 9-3 9-0, whilst Lincolnshire's Tania Bailey and Gloucestershire's Fiona Geaves also won in straight games to maintain the squad's run throughout the event without conceding a single game.
